CHTO DELAT? / What is to be done?

Theme of the public discussion:
Perspectives of Leftist Critical Action in Post-Socialism and New Definitions of Class and Proletariat

Chto delat/What is to be done? was founded in early 2003 in Petersburg by a workgroup of artists, critics, philosophers, and writers from Petersburg, Moscow, and Nizhny Novgorod with the goal of merging political theory, art, and activism. Since then, Chto delat has been publishing an English-Russian newspaper on issues central to engaged culture, with a special focus on the relationship between a repoliticization of Russian intellectual culture and its broader international context. These newspapers are usually produced in the context of collective initiatives such as art projects or conferences.

Theme of the public discussion:
Perspectives of Leftist Critical Action in Post-Socialism and New Definitions of Class and Proletariat

How fight anti-communist consensus which joins neo-liberal and nationalists forces in the post-socialists countries? Which are possible strategies off critical acting in art and culture within that post-socialist condition? How critical art and intellectual production could be more strongly bound with political and activists movements? What is the class situation in the post-socialist countries, particularly in Serbia and Russia? What was the class structure of the late socialist society? How has it changed? Is the change the standard capitalist polarization? What is the specificity and role of the immaterial labor in Russia and Serbia?

All those questions are part of the central theme which will be discussed by contributors and guests of the panel discussion with the aim to observe specificities and similarities in the situations of the East-European countries, and also to find the way for potential mutual practices.

After presentation in Novi Sad, there are two presentations and discussions with members of Chto Delat? in Belgrade, in Magacin, Kraljevića Marka 4 (http://www.tkh-generator.net/sr/uprocesu/program-za-septembar-magacin-u-...). Organization of the event in Belgrade: Prelom kolektiv from Belgrade (www.prelomkolektiv.org) and in Novi Sad: New Media Center_kuda.org (www.kuda.org).

In the attachment, there are two texts connected with the work of collective Chto Delat?
