Abstract

The three dialogues between Marguerite Duras and Jean-Luc Godard collected in this book represent a conversation begun in 1979 [the first dialogue, on the occasion of Godard's Sauve qui peut (la vie)], continued in 1980 (the second dialogue regarding incest film project ) and which ends in 1987 (the third dialogue for the television show Océaniques). It is both an important relationship and a time-limited encounter between a writer and a director. In a 1997 interview, Goddard said Duras had known "two or three years," in an expression reminiscent of the title of his film Two or Three Things I Know About Her. They meet for a few years and talk about "two or three things" that help them think: their second encounter comes after they both published collections of their thoughts on the film, Duras Green eyes, Godard's Introduction to a True History of Cinema and Television.
